Steel Magnolias

STEEL MAGNOLIAS by Robert Harling

Directed by Anne Marie Szucs

Performances:
November 26, 27, 28/2009
7:30 PM

Help kick off our 25th season by coming to see a remount of one of The Horizon Players most successful productions. STEEL MAGNOLIAS is known to many as the moving story turned film starring Dolly Parton, Julia Roberts, Sally Fields, Shirley MacLaine and Daryl Hannah. The play explores the life and relationships of six women who are soft as magnolias and strong as steel.

Miss Truvy’s hair salon (“There’s no such thing as natural beauty”) is the hub of the action as the women prepare for Shelby’s wedding. Their friendship and strength is tested as they try and support Shelby through her high-risk pregnancy.

“A skillfully crafted, lovingly evoked picture of eccentricity in the small town South.” - Drama-Logue “Harling has given his women sharp, funny dialogue … The play builds to a conclusion that is deeply moving.” – The New York Daily News

(Cast In order of appearance)
Truvy – Elizabeth Marsh
Annelle – Kat Evans
Clairee – Kathy
Parris Shelby – Lindsey Walker

Hamlet

HAMLET by William Shakespeare

Directed by Richard Winnick

Performances:
May 13, 14, 15/2010

Forget the fact that HAMLET is regarded as Shakespeare’s most powerful play and is regarded as one of the most influential tragedies in the English language. Forget the fact that you had to “study” HAMLET and all those words.

This is actually a play about lust, revenge and a family feud of monumental proportion. Hamlet is the original “angry young man” rebelling against his parents after learning that his mother has re-married his uncle (now his stepfather) following the funeral for his father.

The lead role has been recently played by Mel Gibson, Ethan Hawke and Jude Law.

This modern-conceived production is brought to you by the same team that produced Man of La Mancha and The Three Musketeers.
